Getting from Waiheke Island to Auckland takes about 35 minutes on the ferry.

That’s a long time when you need urgent medical help. Thankfully the Waiheke community can rely on the “Chopper” to get people to hospital in six-seven minutes, a literally life-saving service provided by the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust [https://www.rescuehelicopter.org.nz/].

Through the annual Chopper Swim Challenge, [https://www.chopperswim.nz/] swimmers raise funds for the Chopper, swimming 20km from Matiatia Bay on Waiheke to the ARHT base at Mechanics Bay in Central Auckland.

Some cover this eye-watering distance “solo”, others team up with friends. All take to the water to support an amazing cause.  This page gives you the opportunity to get behind them.
